Time: from 9:15 a.m.
Weather: dry, sunny, light wind, 1°C to 2°C
It was a beautiful sunny but very cold morning for my second visit of the year to the site. It also proved to be more productive than my first visit on 2nd January 2025
I recorded 17 species including 5 additions to my 2024 site list …. Redwing, Chaffinch, Long-tailed Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Jackdaw
My visit immediately got off to an excellent start with my first Red Fox of the year in the paddock behind Larkins Tyres plus a male Chaffinch in the bushes adjacent to the track in the same area.

I saw another Red Fox in the northern section of the site.
Other highlights included Great Spotted Woodpecker (3 excitably calling birds in flight together in the northern section of the site, 2 more in the western section of the cemetery and another heard calling on Church Hill), a single Green Woodpecker in the western section of the cemetery and c.20 Redwings foraging in the leaf litter in the wooded area in the southern section of the site).
Species recorded during this visit were as follows (heard only records in italics):
Blue Tit
Red Fox
Site totals for 2025 to date (2024 totals in brackets):
Birds = 17 (49)
Total species list for the site
Birds = 67
