Visit to St. Nicholas Church and surrounding areas – 8th March 2024

Date: 8th March 2024

Time: from 9 a.m.

Weather: dry, sunny, moderate wind, 7°C to 8°C

This morning, I had a full walk around the site including the northern section of the site, the cemetery and the wooded area in the south of the site on my way home.

It proved to be a relatively unproductive visit although I was able to record a further species to add to my 2024 bird site listChaffinch

The main highlights during my visit were Chaffinch (a briefly singing but unseen male in the northern section of the site), Mallard (a male and female on the small pond in the northern section of the site …. the first time I have ever seen anything here) and a Great Spotted Woodpecker (1 heard calling in the wooded area at the end of the track from Larkins Tyres).

In addition, I saw a single Grey Squirrel in the wooded area in the south of the site on my way home.

Species recorded during this visit were as follows (heard only records in italics):

Blue Tit

Great Tit
Robin
Wren
Blackbird
Chaffinch
Goldfinch
House Sparrow
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Magpie
Carrion Crow
Woodpigeon
Mallard

Here is a photo from my visit ....
