Gloucester Park is a site that I visited regularly during the first Covid-19 lockdown in early 2020 although I rarely visit now due to the number of people around and anti-social behaviour including littering, fly-tipping and vandalism. During 2023, I only visited twice and I did not visit at all during 2024.
I was prompted to visit again today given that it was a very cold and frosty morning with some mist evident. I hoped that this would provide some good opportunities for photographing the main lake. By the time that I arrived, the sun had risen and was shining strongly and the mist had disappeared. Nonetheless, I did get some nice photos including reflections.
With regard to wildlife, I managed to record 2 new species for the site: a Great Crested Grebe already in full summer plumage and a Little Grebe still in its expected winter plumage.
Birds on both the main lake and the smaller lake are usually the main focus of a visit and this morning I recorded the following: Great Crested Grebe (1), Little Grebe (1), Grey Heron (1), Mallard (c.20), Moorhen (c.15), Coot (5), Canada Goose (c.50), Cormorant (7)
Species recorded during this visit were as follows (heard only records in italics):
Great Crested Grebe
