Date: 6th February 2025
Time: from 8:30 a.m.
Weather: dry, sunny, light wind, 1°C to 4°C
It was another beautiful sunny but very cold and frosty morning for my visit to the site.
I only had brief visit today for various reasons, not least including the fact that I had forgotten to recharge my camera battery or take a spare out with me! The 15% charge quickly disappeared with the cold temperature but not before I had at least taken a few record photos of a Red Fox and a Reeves’ Muntjac.
The main highlight of my visit was another addition to my 2025 site list, namely Common Buzzard. I had a very brief view of a single bird as it flew off from one of the tall trees at the far end of the northern section of the site. However, it very quickly disappeared from view and did not return for an anticipated photo of it soaring in the sunshine.
Other highlights included a single calling but unseen Redwing in the northern section of the site and 4 Green Woodpeckers (1 seen in the paddock in the northern section of the site plus 3 others heard calling in the northern section of the site, around Church Hill and in the woodland in the southern section of the site).
With regard to mammals, I had distant views of a Red Fox and a Reeves’ Muntjac, the former in the paddock in the northern section of the site and the latter also in the northern section of the site.
Species recorded during this visit were as follows (heard only records in italics):
Blue Tit
Red Fox
Here are some photos from my visit ….
