Yesterday evening, I had a Swift survey walk close to home and immediately adjacent to my St. Nicholas Church local wildlife watching patch.
This was (belatedly) my first walk of the year and, after 30 minutes of zero sight or sound of any Swifts, I was beginning to feel disheartened.
However, during the next 30 minutes, I saw groups of 4, 2 and 3 Swifts although some of these may have been duplicate sightings.
In addition, I had a very brief and very distant view of c.15 “swiftly” flying birds which may also have been Swifts.
Assuming that these are “second wave” non-breeding Swifts prospecting for nest sites, this is really encouraging given the close proximity of St. Nicholas Church where I believe Swifts used to breed and where a nestbox project was recently approved.
I have added my Swift records to https://www.swiftmapper.org.uk/
