I booked a rental car from 5th to 11th May 2025 for a trip away from home to include visits to a number of sites in Wales.
My aim was to primarily add species to my 2025 UK year list.
My trip provided excellent birding opportunities including a total of 111 species and 25 additions to my 2025 UK year list taking it to 171 species. I recorded all of my target species except Whimbrel and Ring Ousel.
The 25 additions to my 2023 UK year list were as follows: Fulmar, Gannet, Shag, Eider, Osprey, Red Grouse, Black Grouse, Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, Sandwich Tern, Arctic Tern, Guillemot, Razorbill, Black Guillemot, Puffin, Tree Pipit, Dipper, Common Redstart, Whinchat, Wheatear, Wood Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, Pied Flycatcher, Chough, Raven
This included 3 additions to my Wales list taking it to 149 species: European White-fronted Goose, Greenshank, Cetti’s Warbler
In addition, I recorded 4 mammal species: Red Deer, Brown Hare, Rabbit, Grey Squirrel
I also recorded Common Lizard, 1 butterfly species (Orange Tip) and 3-4 dragonfly/damselfly species (Hairy Dragonfly, Large Red Damselfly, Azure and/or Common Blue Damselfly)
