Record numbers of Atlantic Grey Seals born on the Norfolk coast

A record number of Atlantic Grey Seals have been recorded on a 5 mile stretch of coast in Norfolk.

A total of 3796 pups have been born so far this winter while 1169 adults have been recorded by volunteers from Friends of Horsey Seals. This year’s figure is almost double the count during the winter of 2019-20 when 2069 pups were counted.

Friends of Horsey Seals - seal count 2022/23 - week 10 - 4th January 2023

This is excellent news given the large number of marine mammal and bird species that are struggling due to warming oceans, plastic and other pollution and disturbance.

I visited Horsey beach on 5th December 2022 .... please see here for my report and photos.
