Visit to Noak Bridge Nature Reserve – 8th April 2023

Date: 8th April 2023

Time: from 7:30 a.m.

Weather: dry, sunny, light wind, 4°C to 8°C

After recording my first Chiffchaff of the year at the reserve on my last visit on 5th April 2023, my main target was again Blackcap.

This time I was successful: I saw a singing male Blackcap between the Spanish Steps and Prewers Pond and I saw another singing male plus a female in the area around Meadow Pond. I heard a third singing male in the area around Willow Pond. These sightings of Blackcap were my first records for the year taking my total to 25 species.

Chiffchaffs were again evident across the reserve and I saw 2 singing males, heard 4 other singing males and heard another calling bird.

Both summer visiting warblers are now well established on the reserve.

I also saw a Grey Squirrel in the wooded area around Puckles Pond.

Species recorded during this visit were as follows (heard only records in italics):

Blackcap
Chiffchaff
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Long-tailed Tit
Wren
Dunnock
Robin
Blackbird
Jay
Magpie
Carrion Crow
Woodpigeon
Herring Gull

Grey Squirrel
