After recording my first Chiffchaff of the year at the reserve on my last visit on 5th April 2023, my main target was again Blackcap.
This time I was successful: I saw a singing male Blackcap between the Spanish Steps and Prewers Pond and I saw another singing male plus a female in the area around Meadow Pond. I heard a third singing male in the area around Willow Pond. These sightings of Blackcap were my first records for the year taking my total to 25 species.
Chiffchaffs were again evident across the reserve and I saw 2 singing males, heard 4 other singing males and heard another calling bird.
Both summer
visiting warblers are now well established on the reserve.
I also saw a Grey Squirrel in the wooded area around Puckles Pond.
