Flight-free travel

Having taken 5 flights during 2019 plus several flights in previous years, I made a conscious decision in December 2019 to not fly to or from European destinations in the future due to the impact of flights on carbon emissions and the climate emergency.

I support the Flight-free UK campaign.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has led to a rapid and substantial decline in air travel and air traffic. Whilst the reduction in both is desirable, the Flight Free 2020 campaign has stated: “But we know that change by disaster is very different to change by design. Our message has been consistent since we launched in February 2019: we want people to choose not to fly because of the climate impact of aviation rather than be forced not to because of the pandemic.”

However, when the health crisis is over, the Government needs to take some clear policy actions in respect of aviation if it has any hope of reaching its climate change targets: What should the Government do?

What ever happens, I will not be flying in 2020 or the years that follow.
