Less than two weeks ago Essex Police announced they were working with the RSPB to investigate the suspicious death of a Red Kite found in the Uttlesford district of Essex .... see here.
It has now just been confirmed that another Red Kite has been shot in the Chelmsford area although fortunately it was not killed and is being cared for at a wildlife hospital.
Raptor Persecution UK - Another red kite shot in Essex
Appalling incidents of wildlife crime (persecution, trapping, poisoning and shooting) against our birds of prey are reported on a regular basis, mainly from the moorlands and uplands of northern England and north east Scotland.
However, other areas are not exempt from this and my own county of Essex is clearly not exempt.
The Government must take wildlife crime far more seriously than it currently does, resource Police wildlife crime units properly and increase the penalties for successful prosecutions.
How can anyone remotely justify persecuting or killing such a magnificent and beautiful bird?
