Today is the "Glorious Twelfth"

Today is the "Glorious Twelfth".

Except that it is totally "inglorious" to quote the title of the book by Mark Avery.

There is nothing "glorious" in ....

> the killing of thousands of Red Grouse purely for entertainment and fun

> the industrial scale illegal killing of birds of prey and other wildlife in the uplands of northern England and north east Scotland

> the destruction of valuable upland wildlife habitats and the consequent loss of biodiversity, increase in flood risk and increase in carbon emissions

> the contamination of land by pollution from lead shot

.... whilst at the same time, the Government completely ignores the criminality and carnage and continues to provide subsidies to the landowners who engage in driven grouse shooting.

The campaign by individuals and conservation groups will not stop.

For every bird of prey that is poisoned or shot or "disappears" over a grouse moor, the revulsion and anger increases.

Robust scientific evidence and public opinion will eventually win through and the killing of legally protected wildlife and the damage to our fragile upland habitats and ecosystems will cease.

It is only a matter of time.

It’s not a question of will driven grouse shooting be stopped, only when.

Anyone who cares about wildlife and the environment should have the confidence to know that we can beat the lies, the bullying and the criminality of a small minority in the hunting and shooting community.

Ban driven grouse shooting now!
