Many years ago there used to be a “spot the ball” competition on the sports pages of newspapers (the ball in the photo of a football match had been blanked out and you had to guess the exact position).
Now here is a variation on that …. “spot the UK”.
See if you can see the UK in this community of European nations.
There we are, sitting in glorious isolation, an island in the Atlantic pursuing our ridiculous vision of British Empire 2.0 and basking in our own ill-perceived idea of exceptionalism.
Meanwhile, the other nations of Europe are working collectively and collaboratively on the urgent issues of our time such as the climate emergency, biodiversity loss and extinction, high regulatory standards on the environment, employment, health, etc., economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, security and the prevention of terrorism, drug smuggling, people trafficking, crime reduction and much more.
Never mind, at least "the will of the people" has prevailed (just ignore all the lies, the illegality, the actual referendum voting statistics and the consistent opinion polling outcomes for 4 years).
Never mind, the greatest act of self-harm to our society and economy doesn't really matter.
Never mind, we have our “sovereignty” and “freedom” back.
Never mind, we have “taken back control” ..... and at least our fish are British and much happier.
