Women in birding: changing perceptions

In the light of the horrific abduction and murder of Sarah Everard, which received a great deal of coverage in the mainstream media and on social media, I wrote in this blog about the issues specifically affecting female birders including referencing an excellent piece by Lucy McRobert .... see here and here.

This has now been followed by another very well written and generally positive article from 16 year old Siรขn Mercer .... see here.

There is a lot of food for thought here and an ongoing requirement, not least from all older, white and male birders (like me), to ensure that everyone is made welcome in our birding community and that they feel safe what ever their gender, sexuality, race, religion or anything else.

Accessibility and safety should be a focus and priority for us all.
