Record from my flat - Common Buzzards

This is now becoming a regular occurrence, especially on sunny mornings.

At 10:35 a.m., I was again alerted to the presence of a Common Buzzard by the “mewing” call and I quickly located it as it soared over the wooded area beyond the houses opposite my flat. Within a few minutes, it was joined by another Common Buzzard and they soared together. I was able to watch and hear these birds intermittently for the next 30 minutes or so. A single bird reappeared briefly at 1:50 p.m.

I had my first Common Buzzard record from my flat for the year (a single bird) on 7th March 2022. This was followed by further sightings on 10th March 2022 (2 birds), 14th March 2022 (2 birds) and 15th March 2022 (3 birds).

In addition, I have already had Common Buzzard sightings this year at my nearby St. Nicholas Church and Gloucester Park local patch sites.

During 2021, I recorded Common Buzzards from my flat on 11 dates although other than on one occasion this involved single birds.

The presence of 2 birds in my immediate local area on a regular basis suggests a possible pair that have taken up residence. It would be wonderful if a pair Common Buzzards settled to breed, especially if I was able to locate the nest site.

Here are some record shots of one of this morning's Common Buzzards taken through my flat window ....
