I set up this blog in mid-March 2020 during the emerging Covid-19 health crisis in the UK and around the world.
Fortunately, at least in the UK, the truly awful impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic have reduced in their severity although there are still high levels of infection.
Way back last year, there were widespread and vocal calls for a full public enquiry in to the UK's resilience and preparedness for a global health pandemic, the failure of Government to initially take the threat seriously, the Government repeatedly doing too little too late in its response, the corrupt procurement of PPE and other essential equipment through the favouring of Conservative Party donors and the friends of Government Ministers, the huge financial losses incurred as a result of waste and fraud plus many other issues of concern.
Oh, and all that without the repeated criminal breach of Covid-19 regulations by Government Ministers themselves and the repeated excuses and denials. I am referring to Partygate of course.
The Government has consistently resisted a public enquiry but at last, on 21st July 2022, Baroness Heather Hallett officially launched the UK Covid-19 Inquiry.
Hopefully there will be accountability for mistakes, incompetence and corruption and lessons will be learned .... but don't hold your breath for full transparency given that the Government may well be intending to withhold vital information and evidence.
