Make the UK great again

We are currently witnessing 2 candidates for the leadership of the Conservative Party, and therefore the next Prime Minister, trashing the record of the Government that they were both part of for so long (the irony seems to be completely lost on them) and trying to out-compete each other on who can come up with the most reactionary and right-wing policy platform to attract the tiny atypical section of the population who get to vote.

The UK is facing major challenges .... the climate emergency, the huge financial and social impacts of Brexit, the cost of living crisis, gross inequality of wealth and opportunity in our population and across our regions and so much more.

Once the Conservative Party selectorate have decided who they want as their leader, that new leader should immediately call a General Election and let us all have a say.

So .... how do we make the UK great again?

The following would be a good start ....

A progressive alliance at the next General Election. Those of us who believe in progressive values, mutual co-operation and internationalism are clearly in the majority and, if tribal politics by the opposition parties is ended, the Conservative Party can easily be defeated and consigned to history where it belongs.

A complete review and modernisation of our broken and corrupt governance and politics starting with a written constitution and electoral reform to ensure proper accountability and the engagement of as many people as possible in a genuine and constructive participatory democracy. Rejoining the European Union to restore all the freedoms and benefits that we have lost and to work in close mutual co-operation with our European partners in tackling the major challenges that our countries and the world face.

It is quite straightforward really.
