"It is a sad thing to think that nature speaks and that mankind does not listen."

It is a sad thing to think that nature speaks and that mankind does not listen.”

This statement was made in 1870 by the poet and novelist Victor Hugo and it is never more important as it is today.

There are many related and increasing crises affecting our planet .... the climate emergency, the rapid loss and extinction of biodiversity, the declining health of our seas and oceans and the exploitation and depletion of natural resources.

Humanity is the author of our own misfortune and the potential cause of our ultimate demise as a species.

All the scientific evidence clearly demonstrates that we can not and must not continue on our current path.

Our relationship with nature, traditionally based on domination and exploitation, has already led to the alteration of around 75% of the land’s surface and around 40% of marine environments.

The global rate of species extinction is tens to hundreds of times higher than the average rate over the past 10 million years and around 1 million animal and plant species are currently threatened with extinction.

This can not and must not continue.

The scientific evidence calls for a complete change .... a total overhaul of our relationship with nature and biodiversity.

This is not an option but a fundamental necessity for the survival of humanity. Our own welfare relies on the health of the environment and the well-being of all the other species that we share our planet with.

Nature is speaking and we need to listen.

The time to act is now.
