At yesterday's Moment of Reflection as part of the National Day of Reflection, Michael Morpurgo read his short story "Song of Gladness".
The story starts by Michael telling a Blackbird why we are so sad at the moment. Blackbird sits on his branch and listens. Blackbird's "idea" is heard by Fox and then communicated to all the animals around the world. Eventually Blackbird urges humans to join in and sing so that we can all be happy again and treat nature and the world in the right way.
"Your song is our song. Our song is your song. We all sang. Sang away our sadness. And we heard and they heard our song of gladness echoing together in glorious harmony across the universe."
Here is "Song of Gladness" read by Michael. It is well worth listening to.
