I recently wrote about the relative lack of women out and about in the natural world watching wildlife and the appalling reasons for that .... see here.
Sorrel Lyall is a young female birder of mixed Indian heritage, wildlife artist and ecology student in Edinburgh. I had not heard of her before reading her recent article .... Diversity in birding – are we making progress?
Following on so quickly from Lucy McRobert's article, it too raises some important issues regarding the barriers that prevent equal access to the natural world..
David Lindo is perhaps the best known person of colour in our wildlife watching community and he has been around for many years and is always brilliant to listen to at Birdfair.
Fortunately, there are now a few of our amazing young naturalists and campaigners from an ethnic minority background who also have an increasing profile, most notably Mya-Rose Craig and Kabir Kaul. Hopefully, they will continue to lead the way and inspire others to become interested and involved.
