Fat Bear Week

Fat Bear WeekI didn't even know there was one!

Maybe it is an American thing!

It is described as follows .... Fat Bear Week is a celebration of success and survival. It is a way to celebrate the resilience, adaptability and strength of Katmai’s Brown Bears. Bears are matched against each other in a “march madness” style competition and online visitors can vote who is ultimately crowned the Fat Bear Week 2022 Champion. Over the course of the week, virtual visitors learn more about the lives and histories of individual bears while also gaining a greater understanding of Katmai’s ecosystem.”

Congratulations to the winner of Fat Bear Week 2022 ....

I think it is safe to say that Brown Bear 747, tipping the scales at an estimated 1400 pounds, is rather large!

I have seen Brown Bears on 3 separate trips to north east Finland and these animals are positively svelte compared with these big boys in the Katmai National Park in south west Alaska.
