It is often the case that past Governments of all political persuasions have sought to deflect attention from their own failings by blaming others.
The Conservative Governments of the last 12 years have been particularly keen to use this tactic.
We have previously had the “citizens of nowhere” and the “enemies of the people” amongst other little gems.
The new Government led by Prime Minister Liz Truss has just invented the latest bogeyman that we should all be fearful of.
Say hello to the “anti-growth coalition”.
This catchy title (not) was recently coined by Truss and her Ministers. So, who or what is the “anti-growth coalition”?
This opaque and sinister group is basically anyone that dares oppose the new Government's policy. It is a way to badge all forms of opposition as “anti-growth” and implying that only Truss and her Ministers, and only they, can manage the economy and generate growth in the UK.
In fact, to borrow from George Monbiot's article below, just about everyone in the UK who isn’t a swivel-eyed neo-liberal right-wing headbanger.
Aside from the economic illiteracy and moral bankruptcy of their so-called mini-budget a few weeks ago as evidenced by the collapse in the financial markets and the scale of the opposition to measures designed to benefit the wealthiest in society, Truss and her Ministers have implemented a blatant, unprecedented and full-scale attack on nature ....
