Today is World Curlew Day

21st April is World Curlew Day.
























This is a grass-roots initiative, supported by major environmental organisations, to raise awareness of the plight of Curlew species around the world and to encourage activities to help them.

The Eurasian Curlew is one of the most widespread of the Curlew species, breeding across temperate Europe, including the UK, and Asia. It is the largest European wading bird, instantly recognisable on winter estuaries or summer uplands and moors by its long, downcurved bill, brown upperparts, long legs and its evocative, bubbling and melancholic calls.
