Time: from 6:30 a.m.
Weather: dry, sunny, light wind, 6°C to 8°C
This was another early morning visit to this site.
These early morning visits are particularly good for singing birds, not least a male Robin who can be seen with guaranteed regularity singing at the top of a tree at the edge of the church car park.
With regard to other birds, I saw a singing male Blackcap and 3 singing male Chiffchaffs with a further 5 and 1 of each species heard singing but not seen. Curiously, one of the Chiffchaffs had an extremely rapid song so I am not sure what he had for breakfast to make him so excitable ๐.
In addition, I heard 2 calling Great Spotted Woodpeckers, the first very
distantly but the second much closer although it failed to reveal itself. In
addition, I heard a calling Green Woodpecker, again very distantly.
I also saw 3 Grey Squirrels.
Species recorded during this visit were as follows (heard only records in
italics):
Blackcap
Chiffchaff
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Long-tailed Tit
Robin
Wren
Dunnock
Blackbird
Goldfinch
Green Woodpecker
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Jay
Magpie
Carrion Crow
