At 4:40 a.m. a male Blackcap was singing extremely close to the rear of our flats and continued to do so for around 20 minutes before it, or another male, started singing from 5:10 a.m. near to the front of our flats. A singing male Chiffchaff joined in, although much more distantly, for 15 minutes from 4:55 a.m. I heard another singing Chiffchaff very briefly at 6:35 p.m.
Woodpeckers were also very evident early this morning. Between 5:25 a.m. and 5:35 a.m., there was a Green Woodpecker calling very distantly but then it, or another, was calling much closer to our flats between 5:45 a.m. and 5:55 a.m. In addition, a Great Spotted Woodpecker called briefly at 5:35 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
I recorded the following species today (heard only records in italics):
Blackcap
Chiffchaff
Blue Tit
Blackbird
Song Thrush
Robin
